Softball Game Preview: James Madison Warhawks vs. McLean Highlanders

The James Madison Warhawks will face off against the McLean Highlanders at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

James Madison is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They put the hurt on Yorktown with a sharp 16-6 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Warhawks sure are getting used to it with their 11th in a row.

Meanwhile, McLean faced Langley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Highlanders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Saxons a 6-0 shutout. Give the Highlanders' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

James Madison's win was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for McLean, their win bumped their record up to 20-2.

James Madison came out on top in a nail-biter against McLean in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warhawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
