Basketball Recap: Red Springs Comes Up Short

Red Springs played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 47-22 to the St. Pauls Bulldogs. The Red Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-7.

When it comes to explaining why Red Springs lost, don't look at Monica Washington. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points.

Leading St. Pauls to victory were Zhari Shipman and Ava Monroe. Shipman went 6-for-13 en route to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals, while Monroe had 13 points and six steals. The game was Shipman's third in a row with at least 17 points. Ashley Morris was another key player, putting up nine points along with five boards and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Red Springs and nudges their season record down to 6-14. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 17-1 Fairmont (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 89.7% over those games). As for St. Pauls, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Red Springs has already played their next match, a 52-30 loss against Clinton on the 7th. As for St. Pauls, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-40 defeat against Fairmont on the 7th.
