Baseball Recap: Mishawaka Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Mishawaka dropped their record down to 13-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Goshen RedHawks. Cavemen fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the RedHawks since on Monday.

Colton Handley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Mishawaka saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shawn Nowacki, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Goshen, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9. The game was the first time they have beaten Mishawaka on their field since May 9, 2022.

On Goshen's side, the result came thanks to Ryen Diaz's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. Diaz also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the RedHawks are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mishawaka will head out to take on Fairfield at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Cavemen surely won't give up without a fight. As for Goshen, they will venture away from home to face off against Plymouth at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The RedHawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pilgrims/Rockies have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
