Basketball Recap: Jacksonville's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Jacksonville won the last time they faced D.H. Conley, and Ra-Shawn Echols did his part to make sure it happened again. The Jacksonville Cardinals pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over the D.H. Conley Vikings on Thursday thanks in part to Echols, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. He has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played.

Despite the defeat, D.H. Conley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cayden Hill went 7 of 11 on his way to 19 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Khaliq Boston, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Jacksonville moved to 3-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for D.H. Conley, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jacksonville will square off against South Central at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Jacksonville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season. As for D.H. Conley, they will venture away from home to face off against New Bern at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th.
