Softball Game Preview: Sunnyside Christian Knights vs. Liberty Christian Patriots

Sunnyside Christian hasn't had much luck against Liberty Christian recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Knights will venture away from home to take on the Patriots at 10:00 a.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sunnyside Christian comes in on three and Liberty Christian on six.

On Tuesday, Sunnyside Christian made easy work of Rosalia and carried off a 19-8 win. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Liberty Christian let Warden stack six runs on them in the fifth inning on Wednesday but luckily Liberty Christian prevailed anyway. The Patriots walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Cougars.

Bella Rogel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mady Getchell, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Quiroz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Liberty Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive contests.

Liberty Christian's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sunnyside Christian, their record is now 8-4.

Sunnyside Christian might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Liberty Christian in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
