Macon County barely beat Portland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 9-2 win on Tuesday. Considering the Tigers have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Matthew Wheeley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gage Jones was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Eli Carver was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Macon County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory (which was Macon County's fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Portland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-18.

Macon County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-1 victory against Red Boiling Springs on the 17th. As for Portland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-6 win against East Robertson on the 17th.
