Baseball Recap: Service Takes Down Ranked Colony

Service faced Colony in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Knights. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-2 back in April.

Ashton Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rilen Niclai, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Service pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Colony, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Coming up, Service will be playing in front of their home fans against Chugiak at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Colony, they are taking a road trip to square off against Wasilla at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
