Softball Game Preview: Burlington Red Devils vs. Wakefield Memorial Warriors

The Burlington Red Devils will head out to square off against the Wakefield Memorial Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Burlington has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Wakefield Memorial will come in with four straight wins.

Burlington is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since May 29, 2025 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Belmont by a score of 3-1.

Jennifer McFadden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Burlington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Ortiz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Naya Baldwin also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Wakefield Memorial made easy work of Winchester on Wednesday and carried off a 15-3 victory. Fans of the Warriors have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Burlington's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Wakefield Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Burlington might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Wakefield Memorial in their previous matchup last Wednesday. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
