Preview: Hiawatha Hawks vs. Earlville Red Raiders
Hiawatha is 0-7 against Earlville since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Hiawatha Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Earlville Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Hiawatha: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Earlville has snatched up nine consecutive wins on the road.
Last Saturday, Hiawatha was the victim of a tough 57-32 loss at the hands of Lisle.
Meanwhile, Earlville put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Monday. They claimed a resounding 72-39 win over Woodland at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-16.
Earlville had a senior duo take command as Griffin Cook dropped a triple-double on 21 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists and Ryan Browder scored 25 points along with six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Browder has scored all season. Adam Waite was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Hiawatha has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-20 record this season. As for Earlville, their victory bumped their record up to 25-3.
Hiawatha was dealt a bruising 61-27 loss at the hands of Earlville when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Hiawatha, Garrett Cook (who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
