Volleyball Recap: Hilliard Davidson Takes a Loss

Hilliard Davidson came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the Thomas Worthington CARDINALS. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the CARDINALS: they've now lost four in a row.

While Hilliard Davidson was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Thomas Worthington's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-17, 25-19.

Despite the loss, Hilliard Davidson still got an impressive performance from Logan Buck, who had ten digs and two assists. Buck has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times he's played.

Leading Thomas Worthington to victory were Drew Barnes and Oliver Marker. Barnes had ten digs and four assists, while Marker had ten digs and two assists. That's the most assists Marker has posted over his last eight matches. Thomas Hayward also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

Hilliard Davidson's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Thomas Worthington, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, Hilliard Davidson and Thomas Worthington will both be playing St. Xavier the next time they take the court. The Wildcats will head out to face the Bombers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the CARDINALS will play them later in the day, at 1:00 p.m.
