A big 21-point second quarter helped carry
Academy Park (Sharon Hill, Pa.) to a 35-6 victory over
Penn Wood (Lansdowne, Pa.) on Saturday.
The Knights scored on a touchdown run by
Jerry Lanier, a Lanier touchdown run and a punt return touchdown by
Hakim Whitaker in the quarter.
Academy Park was up 27-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Tyler Street to
Jeff Devaughn in the first quarter.
AP expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. The Sharon Hill school scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Street.
Terrance White II made a difference for the Patriots. The sophomore wide receiver caught one touchdown.
The Knights' most effective player was Lanier. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns and kicked one extra point. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Penn Wood's lone touchdown came on a 40-yard pass from
Akinshola Jolaoso to White II in the fourth quarter.
Academy Park came into the game allowing 16.0 points per game. PW's six points were below its season average of 10.8 per game.
AP also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 35-0.
Academy Park (5-1) will play a Delaware Valley game against Chester next week, while Penn Wood (0-6) will take on Glen Mills also in a Delaware Valley game.
