Farmington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Cleveland, who was ranked third in their home state at the time (Farmington was ranked tenth). Farmington was beaten by Cleveland 50-0 on Friday. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Scorpions were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Volcano Vista had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They breezed by the Panthers on the road to the tune of 48-7. With that victory, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 27.6 points per game.

Volcano Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ilijah Hansen led the charge by throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Devin Dunkin was in the mix too, providing Volcano Vista with two touchdowns.

Volcano Vista wouldn't let Piedra Vista keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Volcano Vista can thank Jonathon Tafoya Jr and Oen Nicholas for forcing both of them. Daniel Rios was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles.

Farmington's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Volcano Vista, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Farmington beat Volcano Vista 31-21 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Volcano Vista's Alijah (A-Train) Gonzales, who rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be easier for Farmington to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
