Softball Game Preview: Centereach Cougars vs. Newfield Wolverines

Centereach is on a six-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Newfield a six-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Centereach Cougars will welcome the Newfield Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

On Friday, Centereach didn't have quite enough to beat Bellport and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, Newfield suffered their closest defeat since May 7, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Smithtown East by a score of 4-2.

Aubrey Firenze was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Julia Parisi also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Newfield's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Centereach, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Everything went Centereach's way against Newfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, as Centereach made off with a 7-1 victory. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
