Basketball Recap: Summit Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Phoenix Meyer and Kenya Rodriguez

On Friday, the Summit Tigers came up short against the Standley Lake Gators and fell 52-39. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kenya Rodriguez and Phoenix Meyer certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Rodriguez posted 18 points, while Meyer earned nine points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Rodriguez is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Standley Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaliyah Valenzuela, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 13 points and three blocks. Kameron Mireles-Ciancio was another key player, going 7 of 13 en route to 16 points.

Summit's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Standley Lake, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-2.

Summit and Standley Lake should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Summit will take on Steamboat Springs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 131 places (125 vs. 256). Meanwhile, Standley Lake (ranked 56th) will meet Wheat Ridge (ranked 321st) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
