Volleyball Game Preview: Gillespie Miners vs. Vandalia Vandals

The Gillespie Miners will venture away from home to square off against the Vandalia Vandals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vandalia took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Gillespie, who comes in off a win.

Gillespie will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Staunton, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Miners won by a set and slipped past the Bulldogs 2-1.

Gillespie had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-22.

Meanwhile, Vandalia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They fell 2-0 to Southwestern.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-13.

Vandalia's loss dropped their record down to 2-25-1. As for Gillespie, their win bumped their record up to 9-18.

Gillespie beat Vandalia 2-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Miners since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
