Preview: San Diego Vaqueros vs. Progreso Red Ants
San Diego has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The Progreso Red Ants at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Progreso took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on San Diego, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, San Diego earned a 31-20 victory over Lyford.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Diego to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayden Lozano, who threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Ronnie White and his 100 yards on the ground were also a key factor in San Diego's victory.
San Diego's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. The heavy lifting was done by Ryan Casas and Andres Lopez who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Progreso, who are still winless after their seventh game. They were dealt a 53-0 defeat at the hands of Falfurrias on Friday.
San Diego has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in five of their first six matchups, giving them a 5-1 record. As for Progreso, their loss was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7.
Everything came up roses for San Diego against Progreso in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 52-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Diego since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
