It was a good run, but the Edgewater Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Monday. They fell to Weston Ranch 76-71. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Edgewater lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaylan Sammy . Despite the final result, he went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Fabian Taylor, who scored 11 points.
Mateen Rafiq continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Weston Ranch, going 8 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 3 assists. The matchup was Rafiq's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Shaanveer Natt was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Edgewater's defeat dropped their record down to 10-1. As for Weston Ranch, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Edgewater won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Desert Pines at 12:00 p.m. on December 19th. Desert Pines will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 47th in Nevada, while Edgewater is ranked tenth in Florida).
