Softball Recap: West Salem Gets the Win

The West Salem Panthers beat the Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs 5-1 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Parker Powell made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josie Brudos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

West Salem's record is now 19-3. As for Melrose-Mindoro, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Salem will host Ellsworth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Melrose-Mindoro, they will be playing at home against Cashton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
