Baseball Recap: Vestavia Hills Falls to Central in First Game of Season

Vestavia Hills unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Central Red Devils by a score of 10-8 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 5-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Cross Tonsmeire and William Tonsmeire did some serious damage despite the final result: Cross scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while William scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Smith, who scored a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Looking ahead, Vestavia Hills will face off against Chelsea at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Central, they will square off against Thompson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
