Basketball Recap: Gordon-Rushville Takes a Loss

Gordon-Rushville played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 57-35 to the Morrill Lions. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.

When it comes to explaining why Gordon-Rushville lost, don't look at Daniel Martins. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 14 en route to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Martins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kannon Leeper, who posted nine points and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morrill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ashwin Pittman, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 26 points and four blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which Pittman has scored at least a third of Morrill's points. Another player making a difference was Wyler Fisher, who earned 22 points.

Gordon-Rushville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Morrill, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Gordon-Rushville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-62 victory against Leyton on the 1st. As for Morrill, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-33 win against Sioux County on the 1st.
