Softball Recap: Huntington's Run of 16 Straight Victories Now Over

Huntington dropped their record down to 27-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 16-game streak of wins. They lost 15-1 to the Troy Trojans. The game marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

As for Troy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 26-5. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 23 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Troy's part, Isabella Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Garcia has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Madelyn Welch looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in eight consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Jae Jae Phillips was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Setzer, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Troy beat Huntington by a score of 13-2 later that day.
