Colonial recap Oct. 9, 2012

Suffield Academy's Brice McAllister recorded the longest rushing play in Colonial this season in his game against Canterbury last week. McAllister scampered for 71 yards on the play and finished with 230 on the day as his team topped the Saints.

Pomfret School was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to seventh in the league. The Griffins beat St. Thomas More 14-13 earlier in the week.

Canterbury's dynamic duo of Donavon Jackson and Julien Higgs proved tough for Suffield Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jackson threw for 161 yards and one touchdown and Higgs had 97 yards receiving. Ryan Moore helped Canterbury's passing attack out by catching six balls for 41 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Jake Lazarus and McAllister Andrew Gamere's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Lazarus leads the league in passing with 317 yards, while McAllister has rushed for 600 yards this season. Williston Northampton's DonQuale Williams leads the league in receiving yards with 214 on eight catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Wildcats take on Cheshire Academy. Williston Northampton is in third place, while the Cats are in second place.

The Tigers suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after topping Ken Parson's team. Suffield Academy had been ranked 10th, but fell to 33 following the defeat.
