Basketball Recap: Mountain Ridge Comes Up Short

Mountain Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by the Boulder Creek Jaguars and fell 72-42. While losing is never fun, the Mountain Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Jaguars are ranked fourth).

Despite the loss, Mountain Ridge still got an impressive performance from Jaiden Thompson, who posted 19 points. Kellen Wilkinson was another key player, putting up five points.

Boulder Creek found their leader in sophomore Mick Riordan, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points and three steals. Riordan is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Bhesania, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards.

Mountain Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Boulder Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Coming up, Mountain Ridge is taking a road trip to take on O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.7 points per game this season. As for Boulder Creek, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Jaguars take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boulder Creek also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 69.7 points per game.
