Basketball Recap: Dashawn Anderson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newport over Covington Catholic

If Newport was feeling good fresh off their 69-46 takedown of Newport Central Catholic last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Newport Wildcats took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Covington Catholic Colonels. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 73-63 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was DaShawn Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Anderson a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Yamil Rondon, who posted 15 points.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Covington Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newport will take on Dixie Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Covington Catholic, they will be playing at home against Archbishop Moeller at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
