Preview: Cape Hatteras Hurricanes vs. Camden County Bruins

Cape Hatteras has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Camden County Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Camden County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Cape Hatteras, who comes in off a win.

Even though Cape Hatteras has not done well against Manteo recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Cape Hatteras blew past Manteo 47-27. Given Cape Hatteras' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Manteo is ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cape Hatteras' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elizabeth Fairbanks led the charge by scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for Fairbanks. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby O'Neal, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Camden County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They suffered a rough 53-33 loss at the hands of Perquimans.

Despite the defeat, Camden County got a solid performance out of Tessa Dodson, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dodson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Anderson, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds.

Cape Hatteras' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. As for Camden County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Wednesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Cape Hatteras have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Camden County, though, as they've been averaging only 33.3 rebounds per game. Given Cape Hatteras' sizeable advantage in that area, Camden County will need to find a way to close that gap.

Cape Hatteras was dealt a bruising 57-26 loss at the hands of Camden County when the teams last played back in January. Can Cape Hatteras avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
