Volleyball Recap: Providence Catholic's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

It was a good run, but Providence Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the St. Laurence Vikings by a score of 2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Celtics of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Providence Catholic started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-21, 25-23.

Jackson Fowler paced Providence Catholic's offense, picking up 14 kills. Fowler got some help from Andrew Lubinski and his 28 assists. Hayden Hill controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Providence Catholic's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 15-19. As for St. Laurence, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Providence Catholic will head out to take on Sandburg at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Celtics surely won't give up without a fight. As for St. Laurence, they will head out on the road to face off against Morton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
