Basketball Recap: Gray's Creek Bears vs. Douglas Byrd Eagles
The Gray's Creek Bears scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They really took it to Douglas Byrd for the full four quarters, racking up a 91-61 victory on the road. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Gray's Creek as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Leading Gray's Creek to victory were Zeek Reed and Ashton Dorsey. Reed almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Dorsey dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dorsey has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Deante Wike, who scored eight points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Douglas Byrd lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tavon Alexander. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points. Jaden Saldana was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Gray's Creek's victory bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Douglas Byrd, they dropped their record down to 0-19 with that loss, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.
Gray's Creek will head out on the road to square off against the Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lumberton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bears in North Carolina (the Pirates are ranked 235th, while the Bears are ranked 560th). As for Douglas Byrd, they will be playing at home against the Colts at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
