Softball Game Preview: Hico Tigers vs. Italy Gladiators

For the first time this season, Hico will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will welcome the Italy Gladiators at 4:30 p.m. Italy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Hico, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row dating back to last season, Hico turned things around against Huckabay on Tuesday. They blew past the Indians 20-6. The Tigers' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

The result came thanks to Mikaelynn Miles's shutout, as she gave up just eight hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Abella Garza was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with five runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Caroline Mullin, who went 2-for-6 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Hico kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Italy was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Blooming Grove.

Hico's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Italy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
