Softball Recap: Deer Lakes Lancers vs. Yough Cougars
Deer Lakes had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it six. They came up short against the Yough Cougars, falling 8-1. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 8-5.
Deer Lakes saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Yough, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6. They not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7, 2024 (when they won 18-0).
On Yough's side, J Vay made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Vay was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
