Baseball Recap: Claymont Wins Going Away Against Malvern

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hiland, Claymont was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Malvern Hornets 10-3. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Nolan McMorrow made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Braylon Meuhlen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Connor Hillyer, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Claymont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Malvern only posted a batting average of .280.

The victory got Claymont back to even at 2-2. As for Malvern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Claymont didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against McKinley on the 5th. As for Malvern, they will host Conotton Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. This will be the Hornets' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
