Softball Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Marion Wildcats

Mt. Vernon is 1-9 against Marion since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mt. Vernon Rams will be staying on the road to face off against the Marion Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Mt. Vernon will head into Saturday's match on the come-up: they were handed a two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Massac County on Saturday. Mt. Vernon blew past Massac County 11-3.

Allie Sweeten spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Arwyn Wilkey was incredible, going 4-for-4 with a home run, three runs, and two RBI. Paige Watson was another key contributor, going 4-for-4 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, in what's become a running theme this season, Marion gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. Everything went their way against Carmi-White County as Marion made off with a 9-2 win. Winning may never get old, but Marion sure is getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Mt. Vernon now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Marion, they are on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 22 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 26-4 record this season.
