Baseball Recap: Paxton Comes Up Short

If Paxton was feeling good fresh off their 15-2 takedown of Poplar Springs last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bobcats fell 14-9 to the Baker Gators on Friday. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gators earlier this season, when they won 5-2.

Colby Vaiyanet was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Paxton is 5-2 when Vaiyanet posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Varnum, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base.

Paxton's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6. As for Baker, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paxton will take on Pleasant Home at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bobcats are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Baker, they will face off against Jay at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
