Baseball Recap: Westfield Takes a Loss

Westfield was the 6-4 winner over Union Catholic when they last played one another back in May of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Blue Devils fell 9-5 to the Vikings on Thursday. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Pete Cabrales made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Sullivan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Westfield's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Union Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Westfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Scotch Plains-Fanwood at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.08 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Union Catholic, they will square off against Summit at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
