Soccer Game Preview: Minerva vs. St. Clairsville

The Minerva Lions will square off against the St. Clairsville Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Minerva will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Minerva's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past New Philadelphia 6-0. The result was nothing new for Minerva, who have now won seven matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting New Philadelphia from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Ireland Kirkpatrick led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, St. Clairsville unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-match winning streak on Monday. They and Oak Glen finished up their contest with a 1-1 draw. The result (or lack thereof) was the first time St. Clairsville have been dealt a draw since back in September.

St. Clairsville's draw gives them a new season record of 9-5-3. As for Minerva, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6-2.

Minerva might still be hurting after the 5-0 defeat they got from St. Clairsville in their previous matchup back in October of 2017. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
