Basketball Recap: Greene Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Dontrez Evans and Nick Avent

Greene Central lost against Washington back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Greene Central Rams took a 68-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Washington Pam Pack. While the Rams didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pam Pack 14-8 in the first quarter.

Greene Central's loss came despite strong showings from Nick Avent and Dontrez Evans. Avent went 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds, while Evans went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds. Avent continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalin Sutton, who posted seven points.

Washington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chaise Smith, who put up 20 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. Another player making a difference was Jarryn Payne, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards.

Greene Central's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Washington, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Greene Central and Washington should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Greene Central (ranked 179th) will meet West Craven (ranked 375th) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Washington (ranked 56th) will meet North Pitt (ranked 404th) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
