Baseball Recap: East Columbus Gators vs. South View Tigers
The East Columbus Gators didn't have quite enough to beat the South View Tigers on Thursday and fell 10-9.
Landyn Jacobs put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, East Columbus got a massive performance out of Brooks Mclean, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those runs were Mclean's first of the season. Braylon Waddell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
East Columbus dropped their record down to 7-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for South View, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Columbus will venture away from home to face off against Whiteville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Wolfpack have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for South View, they will head out to challenge Lumberton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.8, the Pirates 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
