Baseball Game Preview: Harnett Central Trojans vs. Cape Fear Colts

The Harnett Central Trojans will challenge the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Harnett Central 4.1, Cape Fear 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Harnett Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on E.E. Smith with a sharp 19-1 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Golden Bulls: they've now won seven in a row.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Cape Fear and Purnell Swett had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Colts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Rams on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Colts have posted against the Rams since March 11, 2022.

Logan Rayburn tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cape Fear saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Jeffrey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

Cape Fear's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Harnett Central, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
