Baseball Recap: Stivers School for the Arts Comes Up Short

Stivers School for the Arts extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They lost 30-0 to the St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Titans. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

As for St. Bernard-Elmwood Place, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For St. Bernard-Elmwood Place's part, Keenan Derrenkamp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Derrenkamp was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Evan Hovenga looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place got a massive performance out of Jason Helphinstein, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Helphinstein has become a key player for the Titans: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nathan Schulte, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stivers School for the Arts will face off against Trotwood-Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Bernard-Elmwood Place, they will challenge Gamble Montessori at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
