Softball Game Preview: Merritt Island Christian Cougars vs. Morningside Academy Eagles

Merritt Island Christian is a perfect 6-0 against Morningside Academy since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cougars will square off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Merritt Island Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Master's Academy as they made off with a 15-4 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

The team relied heavily on Shae Janke, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Ebert, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Morningside Academy got themselves on the board against City of Life Christian Academy on Tuesday, but City of Life Christian Academy never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Merritt Island Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Morningside Academy, their win bumped their record up to 15-5.

Merritt Island Christian took their victory against Morningside Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
