Basketball Recap: Asheville Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Asheville Christian Academy was the 55-54 winner over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Asheville Christian Academy Lions fell to the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles 43-38. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 203rd in North Carolina, while the Eagles are ranked 63rd in Georgia).

Despite the loss, Asheville Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Sara Larios, who posted 18 points. Larios has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Laura Rinehart, who scored six points and five rebounds.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Blanca Martinez out in front who had ten points and four steals. That's the most steals Martinez has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emmie Moore, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Asheville Christian Academy and nudges their season record down to 12-11. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-11.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Lions duke it out with the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlotte Country Day School at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
