Smithfield-Selma is still winless after their game against Southeast Raleigh on Wednesday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs. One positive for the Spartans, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Smithfield-Selma saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was EJ Stridiron, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was Stridiron's first of the season. Another was Gabe Evans, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Smithfield-Selma's record now sits at 0-6. As for Southeast Raleigh, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma will venture away from home to face off against Hunt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hunt will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Smithfield-Selma surely won't give up without a fight. As for Southeast Raleigh, they are taking a road trip to take on Cleveland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
