Softball Recap: Melrose-Mindoro's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Melrose-Mindoro came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blair-Taylor Wildcats a 3-0 shutout. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered an 8-7 loss the last time these two teams met.

Not much got past Emma Severson, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Blair-Taylor off the board. Severson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Melrose-Mindoro's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bella Rozek, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Melrose-Mindoro pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Blair-Taylor, the defeat snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 11-5 record.

Coming up, Melrose-Mindoro will square off against Augusta at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Blair-Taylor, they will face off against McDonell Central at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
