Baseball Game Preview: North Smithfield Northmen vs. Scituate Spartans

The North Smithfield Northmen are taking a road trip to take on the Scituate Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. North Smithfield will be strutting in after a win while Scituate will be coming in after a defeat.

North Smithfield took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Blackstone Valley Prep, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Northmen had just enough and edged out the PRIDE 2-1 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Northmen have posted since May 12th.

The team relied heavily on Dennis Sullivan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Nick Tremblay also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Scituate faced Tolman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Spartans fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-6. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Travis Howman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of David Hanson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

North Smithfield's record now sits at 10-14. As for Scituate, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.

North Smithfield might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Scituate in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can the Northmen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
