Softball Game Preview: Dwyer Panthers vs. John Carroll Catholic Rams

The Dwyer Panthers will take on the John Carroll Catholic Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Dwyer has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

While Dwyer's victory against Martin County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Dwyer sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 win over Martin County on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Brielle Cardoso and Fatima Masri did most of the damage at the plate: Cardoso went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Masri went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Cardoso launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kayla Sejnoha, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Dwyer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, John Carroll Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jensen Beach.

John Carroll Catholic saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Victoria O'Brien, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

John Carroll Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Dwyer, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Dwyer hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like John Carroll Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Everything went Dwyer's way against John Carroll Catholic in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, as Dwyer made off with an 18-11 victory. Will Dwyer repeat their success, or does John Carroll Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
