Basketball Recap: Fort Morgan Mustangs vs. Northridge Grizzlies

This season hasn't been kind to the Fort Morgan Mustangs, who are still winless after their 18th match. They took a 57-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northridge. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Fort Morgan in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now lost four in a row.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Velasquez, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Langford, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Fort Morgan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 11 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Northridge was led to victory by Amadrick Woods and Lincoln Lyons. Woods almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds, while Lyons dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lyons has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Louis Pisano, who scored 14 points along with two steals.

Fort Morgan's loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Northridge, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-12.

Fort Morgan will head out on the road to challenge the Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Riverdale Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mustangs in Colorado (the Ravens are ranked 42nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 319th). As for Northridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Silver Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Severance is coming into the match hot, having won their last ten games.
