Basketball Recap: Rashard Kelly's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kathleen over Lake Gibson

Kathleen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 77-67 to the Lake Gibson Braves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Devils of the 65-59 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Kathleen lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rashard Kelly, who posted 20 points. Mason Keys was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

A'Darrion Willis was his usual excellent self, putting up 30 points for Lake Gibson. Willis' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Cottingham, who had 13 points.

Kathleen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Lake Gibson, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-14 record this season.

Kathleen won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lakeland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lakeland's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matches. Lake Gibson has already played their next contest (against Sebring), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
