Softball Game Preview: Holtville Vikings vs. Southwest EC Eagles

For the second straight game, Holtville will face off against Southwest EC. The Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Holtville has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Holtville came up short against Southwest EC on Tuesday, falling 21-3. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

For Southwest EC's part, Alexis Trujillo was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Trujillo has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Monet Zavala was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with six RBI and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nicole Verdugo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Southwest EC always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win was the fifth in a row for Southwest EC, bringing their record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Holtville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
