Softball Game Preview: Brooke Bruins vs. Union Local Jets

The Brooke Bruins will venture away from home to challenge the Union Local Jets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Brooke is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Catholic Central 19-1 on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Karson Drumm tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Hayman, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emma Michel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Brooke always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Union Local posted their closest victory since March 28th on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cambridge, sneaking past 3-2.

Brooke's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-18. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Union Local, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Brooke skirted past Union Local 9-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Do the Bruins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
