Baseball Recap: Cherokee Wins Going Away Against Volunteer

Cherokee won the last time they faced Volunteer and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cherokee Chiefs blew past the Volunteer Falcons 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won three matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Charles Wagoner, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Cherokee is undefeated when Wagoner posts two or more runs, but 0-6 otherwise. Eli Boyd also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Cherokee is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-6 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.7 runs. This is the second loss in a row for Volunteer and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Looking ahead, Cherokee will look to defend their home field on Monday against Claiborne at 6:00 p.m. As for Volunteer, they will head out to take on Sullivan East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Volunteer has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
