Basketball Recap: Gateway Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

If East Lee County wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Gateway, they should've done a better job of containing Christopher Davis. The Gateway Eagles enjoyed a cozy 81-66 victory over the East Lee County Jaguars on Thursday thanks in part to Davis, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played.

Anjay Boyd was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2023.

East Lee County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Joel Trujillo, who went 6 of 14 en route to 16 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Tobias Jean-Louis, who posted 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Gateway is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points per game. As for East Lee County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-15.

Gateway didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-46 win against Gulf Coast on the 25th. As for East Lee County, they will challenge Immokalee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Lee County has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 199 points over their last three games.
